The Director of Training and Operations at the Defence Headquarters, Maj-Gen. A. Mohammed, has held a strategic meeting with troops of Sector Four of the Operation Delta Safe on ways of bringing an end to militant operations in Bakassi and Akpabuyo local government areas of Cross River State.
Southern City News learnt on Sunday that the meeting, which lasted for hours, was an unscheduled visit from the Defence Headquarters to appraise the operations of Sector Four.
A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak, said, “Maj-Gen. A. Mohammed came in quietly into Calabar and went straight to Ikang and Esighi to assess the troops.
“He also had a firsthand view of what they were doing and assessed their capabilities and challenges and to boost their morale as they push on with the fight in the New Year.”
The source said Mohammed held strategic meetings with the Commander of Sector Four, Operation Delta Safe, Col. N. Muktar, and other top officials of the sector on how to coordinate the battle against the militants and to take it to the next level. “The troops have achieved major successes against the boys, but they need not to relent until the fight is taken to a logical conclusion and ensure that every one living in those areas and businesses are safe by eradicating kidnapping, robberies, extortions and other forms of criminal activities either in the waters or on land.”
It was learnt that after assessing the battle capacity of the troops, Mohammed promised additional training and other logistic provisions that would motivate the soldiers to ensure that in 2017, the militants either surrendered or were completely defeated.
