JUST IN: As Saraki’s trial resumes, Senate begins probe of CCB

The Senate has begun a probe into the circumstances surrounding the building of the permanent site of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The Senate resolved in its first motion of the day to probe the N9billion funds for the acquisition of a permanent office for the Bureau.

The point of order was raised by APC senator from Kogi Dino Melaye, alleging that there was corruption on the construction of the permanent site of the CCB.

Senator Melaye argued that the alleged plans of the CCB to buy a building were not worth the funding released to them.

He therefore urged the Senate to look into the matter.

Deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu, who is overseeing proceedings in the absence of Senate president Bukola Saraki, who is presently undergoing his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) , referred the matter to the appropriate committee.

The trio of the Ethics Committee, Federal Capital Territory Committee and the Procurement Committee have now been charged to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, following the dismissal of his application recently, the trial of Senate president, Dr Bukola Abubakar Saraki, over alleged false assets declaration resumed on Monday, November 7.

The chairman of the national assembly Saraki was also in the dock at the CCT for the second straight day on Tuesday, November 8 while the red chamber legislated on national matters.
