Troops of the Nigerian Army have stopped Boko Haram onslaught in some communities in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
Army spokesman Brigadier-General Sani Usman Kukasheka said in a statement on its official website on Tuesday, March 14 that the troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole carried out a major offensive against such places in Artano, Saduguma, Duve, Bordo, Kala, Bok, Magan, Misherde, Ahisari, Gilgil, Mika, Hiwa, Kutila and Shirawa settlements, all Kala Balge.
This, the statement said, was in continuation of the clearance operation of suspected hideouts of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.
The troops of 112 Task Force Battalion, 22 Task Force Brigade came under heavy attack from the terrorists at Kutila village but responded and dealt with the Boko Haram terrorists by neutralizing and routing them out of the area.
Several others escaped into the thick forest with gunshot wounds.
The troops recovered 1 Gun truck, 1 Canter vehicle and 1 pick-up from the terrorists.
More terrorists were encountered at at Shirawa but the insurgents quickly withdrew in disarray when they could not withstand the firepower of the troops and abandoned the newly constructed Logistics Base.
Kukasheka said: “2 freshly prepared bombing vests and maize grinding machine. The gallant soldiers proceeded further to clear Bok, Misherde, Mika and Kutila also in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State, where they liberated 455 persons held hostages by the terrorists.
“The rescued persons after thorough screening have been moved to Rann Internally Displaced Persons camp.”
Just on Monday, March 13, the Army arrested a former assistant police inspector Odigba Elias and one Abdulwahab Adamu at Married Officers Quarters in Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi in possession of one Single Barrel Gun, 4 cartridges, 11 empty cartridges, Gun powder, 1 Leg chain, 1 Motorcycle and 1 Cutting Machine.
Both suspects are being interrogated.
