A former political adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan’, Barr. Ahmed Gulak, has accused the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi and the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, of treachery and anti-party activities.
Gulak explained that Makarfi erred by allegedly planning to form a new political party, stressing that history would judge him on the negative side if he pulled out with his supporters from the PDP.
Gulak, who said the PDP BoT had become comatose, added that it could not find political solutions to the current leadership crisis bedeviling the party.
Addressing newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja, Gulak said for Makarfi to raise a committee with the mandate of reaching out to aggrieved members of other political parties in order to harvest them and form a new party was a “flagrant violation” of the PDP constitution.
“I have heard on good authority that Makarfi and co, are planning to move out of the PDP to form another party. That is anti-party. I don’t expect them to do that. The PDP has given them a lot,” he said.
He said Makarfi was governor on the PDP platform for eight years and senator for another eight years but stressed that he (Makarfi) was trying to “destroy” the PDP, describing the purported move as unfortunate.
But in a reaction, the spokesman for the Makarfi-led caretaker committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said Sheriff and his team were agents of the APC, “paid by the ruling party to destabilise” the PDP.
