Nigeria-Ghana 2000 Africa Cup of Nations silver medallist Furo Iyemeni believes on-form Chelsea attacker Victor Moses’ career can flourish at La Liga powerhouse Barcelona.

The Super Eagles winger has emerged as one of Chelsea’s standout players this season after the Blues’ Italian manager Antonio Conte converted him into a right wing-back in his new 3-4-3 system.

Chelsea have won seven straight games to sit top of the Premier League table after 13 matches since former Italy boss Conte decided to play Moses in a position with lots of defensive responsibilities.

Spanish publication Sport claimed last week Barcelona had their sights set on signing the former Wigan star, who represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

According to the report, the Spanish giants believe Moses can solve their problematic right-back position following Aleix Vidal’s struggle to adapt to life at the Nou Camp.

Although the South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has since pledged his future to Chelsea, former Nigeria defender Furo has urged the 25-year-old to grab an opportunity to play for Barcelona with both hands.

The former Royal Antwerp defender, who captained Nigeria’s football team for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, insists Moses, whose current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in 2019, has the quality to succeed at Barcelona.

“Moses is a quality player and I’m happy that he has been linked with a club like Barcelona,” the well-travelled former Sharks player told our correspondent on the telephone on Monday.

“Yes, Barcelona already have Lionel Messi, Luiz Suarez and Neymar in their attack, but I believe Moses can find a space in the first team.

“They must have seen something good about him before sending their scouts after him, according to reports.

“The coach (Luis Enrique) could have identified Moses as one player that will fit into the new formation he wants to introduce.

“Barcelona were not playing the way they play now until the coming of Pep Guardiola – and the formation suited some of the players who have become stars.

“Pep Guardiola introduced the same style of play at Bayern Munich and it transformed some of the players into stars.

“I believe Moses will be in the same class as Messi, Suarez and Neymar if he decides to move to Barcelona.”

Furo, who plied his trade in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Greece before hanging up his boots in 2006 to become a coach in Belgium, added, “But Moses will have to work hard to earn his place in the team.

“He shouldn’t bother about the big names at Barcelona. He only need to focus on his quality and take his chance when he gets it.”
